CEO, EMA

With Omicron cases still on the rise across the country, it has indeed been a challenging time for many of our members. I would like to take this opportunity to commend you all for your amazing efforts in the face of uncertainty and update you on some key areas of interest.

Your work, your way

The Government’s announcement regarding the implementation of FPAs would be a step back to rigid operating conditions for businesses. They remove the flexibility for employers and employees which is necessary in modern workplaces. Alongside BusinessNZ, our request to the Government is simple – listen to employers and employees and scrap compulsory FPAs. Submissions to the Select Committee close on Thursday 19 May, and we are urging members to join the campaign rejecting FPAs by signing the open letter.

Please click here to read the open letter and click here for more information about the campaign.

Border reopening

As part of the Government’s staged reopening announcement, New Zealand’s borders officially opened to visitors and tourists from visa-waiver countries on Monday 2 May. This means vaccinated visitors and tourists from over 60 countries, and visitors from other countries who already hold valid visas, can now enter the country without the need for quarantine or managed isolation. This will be a huge boost to businesses, and we hope it signals a return to normality for many of you. Please click here to read more about the staged process.

Epic Employers campaign a huge success

As part of our new People Experience service, we would like to congratulate Norman’s Transport for winning our EMA Epic Employer campaign. The campaign was a great success, and we would like to thank you all for submitting your incredible Epic Employer stories.

Need to hire an offshore migrant now?

If they’ll be earning over 1.5 times the NZ Median wage, or $84,240 a year, you don’t need to wait until the new accreditation system opens in July. You can apply to bring them in now under the ‘Other Critical Worker (long-term)’ category which is open until July. Just complete the Employer request for the critical worker exception form or contact Malcolm Pacific Immigration for assistance.

Finally, as always, our AdviceLine team are ready to take your call. Please get in touch on 0800 300 362 and let us help get your business back on track. Alternatively, please email me and let me know if there is anything more we can do to support you – brett.oriley@ema.co.nz
